For a third consecutive night, the United States and Iran exchanged attacks over control of the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump announced the military would reinstate a blockade targeting Iran, a move that takes effect immediately. Paragraph 5 of the 14-point document calls for Iran to use “its best efforts for the safe passage of commercial vehicles” — deliberately vague wording that Washington interprets as a commitment to open access, while Tehran reads as confirmation of Iranian authority over the strait. A Mideast policy specialist described the language as more favorable to Iran’s position and said a better-negotiated document might have prevented the current instability.

The number of ships attempting to pass the strait has fallen to a trickle,

with analysts suggesting the dispute may only be resolved through a combination of continued military pressure and diplomatic negotiations running simultaneously.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and killed a 26-year-old Colombian man in Biddeford, Maine on Monday morning. It is the second fatal shooting by an ICE agent in a single week and at least the ninth since President Trump launched his immigration enforcement campaign. Community members identified the victim as Joan Sebastian Guerrero, a man with a wife and young child who reportedly held valid U.S. work authorization.

ICE agents had been surveilling

the last known address of a person under a deportation order when a vehicle departed the location. An officer fired at the vehicle, citing fear for public safety. A spokesperson for Senator Angus King stated that the victim was not the target of the ICE warrant — information the senator’s office said came from DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. ICE did not definitively confirm whether the driver was the individual they were seeking.

Maine’s attorney general has opened an investigation, and Republican Senator Susan Collins confirmed that DHS’s inspector general

is also looking into the matter in cooperation with the FBI. Biddeford, a former mill town with deep immigrant roots, has seen growing immigrant communities in recent years, and local residents have expressed shock and fear in the aftermath of the shooting.

A coalition of twelve states, led by California, filed a lawsuit seeking to block Paramount Global’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The legal challenge comes after the Justice Department cleared the deal — a decision that critics have linked to potential political influence from President Trump, who has cultivated close ties with executives in the media industry.

The states argue the merger would consolidate

too much of the entertainment market under one owner, harming competition and consumers. The combination would bring together major studios, television networks, and streaming platforms, raising concerns about reduced choice and higher prices. State attorneys general contend that federal antitrust

review was inadequate and that state-level action is necessary to protect consumers.
